We were
formed in late September 2001 as a response to the terrorist attacks in
the United States.
We believed that the United States would use the deaths of its citizens
as means to execute
the Project for the New American Century(PNAC) which had lobbied as far
back as 1997 for
increased U.S. military spending and taking a harder line against Iraq.
Nine days after September 11 PNAC sent an open letter to President Bush
calling not only for the destruction of Osama Bin Laden's Al Qaeda
network in Afghanistan but also to extend the war to Iraq and to take
action against Iran, Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian Authority.
With prominent and all-powerful members which included Vice President ,
Dick Chaney,
Pentagon adviser Richard Perle, Secretary of Defense Donal Rumsfeld and
his Deputy Paul Wolfowitz we in the N.G.O. Peace Alliance had real
cause of concern about the Imperialist
ambitions of the Bush Administraion driven and controlled by this
dangerous group, the Project for the New American century.
NGO Peace Alliance Action
We maintained a
weekly picket outside the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs since
that time until May 2003 to draw attention to the Irish Government's
lack of political courage to stand up for the rule of International Law
especially as it held the Presidency of the UN Security Council during
this time.
We joined with the Irish Anti War Movement and Pana in organising the
now famous February 15 International Day of Action and further
demonstrations against the Invasion Of Iraq.
We are totally disgusted and outraged at the Irish government's handing
over of Shannon Airport and Irish Airspace to the American Armed Forces
whoo continue to use Irish civilian air facilities without reference to
any Irish Authority.
On September 27 we are calling on all our supporter and sponsors to
join us in calling for and end to the Occupation of Iraq, Palestine and
our own Shannon Airport.
